We will explore commonalities in school life across Europe, with a focus on traditional playground games. We will tackle stereotypes and language barriers. • To enhance the European dimension by promoting co-operative activities between the partners • To establish and develop links between partners • To compare and contrast similarities and differences in traditions • To increase awareness of the importance of playing games, through contact and interaction with the other schools • To broaden children’s knowledge of their own and other nations’ traditional playground games • To enhance pupils’ ICT skills • To facilitate communication between various members of the partnership • To circulate the project to the wider community through newsletters, local papers, blogs/websites • To involve the wider community, and add an inter-generational element to the project • To enhance professional development of staff • To enrich a sense of teamwork, socio-cultural relations, • To increase multi-lingual capacity and to motivate language learning initiatives amongst staff, pupils and the wider school community • To tackle stereotypes and language barriers • To produce resources that can be used by schools |
Subjects to address SPHE- Focus on the importance of physical activity and play Music – Explore rhythm in chants and rhymes of playground games Physical Education – Playing our own playground games and those provided by partner schools ICT – Regular communication via email, twinspace, webcam, skype, website and use of camera, video recorders, photostory History – The development of each partner country’s traditional playground games Visual Arts – discussion of Bruegel’s painting ‘Childrens Games’, logo, calendar, painting ‘My country’.
