Can I Play?

Santa Clause Cup

December 6th

It is a traditional event in our school. Children participate in a race game to celebrate Saint Nicolas´s Day!

Children form mixed teams. Each team consists of children from 4 different classes.

In this way one of the primary aims of the event is fullfilled: pupils get to know each other better and learn to cooperate with younger or senior schoolmates and with their schoolmates fro other classes.

Like in all race games children form a line.

1.Shovelling Snowflakes

The hoola hoop rings are placed in a line at equal distance from each other.

Snowflakes (white material like cotton would do) are placed next to each ring.

Team members form pairs.

The 1st pair in each team runs to shovel snowflakes into the 1st ring. The 2nd pair runs to shovel snowflakes  into the 2nd one and so on, until all five rings are full. Then the 6th pair runs to shovel the snowflakes from the 1st ring into the 2nd one, the 7th pair runs to shovel snowflakes into the 6th ring and so on until all the snowflakes are shovelled into one pile.

2. Sleighing Race

As the game is played indoors the sleighs are held by two children (the elder and stronger ones, and one „lightweigh” team member sits on it. They have to carry the sleigh and run around a bouy and get back to the starting line where the next 3 players wait for their turn.

3. Building a Snowman

Children race to build a snowman in an empty landscape.

Each runner bluetacks one part of the picture and runs back to the starting line. The next pupil starts out after the previous one crossed the line and they touched hands.

4. Reindeer Race

Children form groups of three. One child is the head the other one is the back of the reindeer. The third child will be Santa. The reindeers carry Santa to the „windows” (now symbolized by rings) and they place the present into the window”(they drop the gift packet into the ring).

As the team´s next triple starts out they have to hand on the antlers and the Santa hat too. If they fall from the children´s  head while running the team loses a point!

5. What is in Santa´s Bag? Puzzle Race

Starting at the sound of a whistle, children run to put together a jigaw puzzle which is placed int he middle of the playing „field” one for each team. The first team to complete the puzzle and run back to the starting line is the winner. The picture shows and object or scene connected with Saint Nicolas´s tradition.

6.Advent Calendar Race

The first in the line runs to the calendar and opens a window. If it is a Christmas tree the team  win this race.  If it isn´t he/she runs back to the starting line and the second in line runs to open another window on the calendar.

They take turns until they find the Christmas tree. Make sure each child opens only one window at a time.

7. Decorating the Christmas Tree

The members of the team take turns in running to the fir tree (paper or real one depending on  the budget)and hang on a silver star. The number of stars placed under the tree depends ont he numbers of the team. Each student can put on only one star at a time!

The winner team is the fastest to hang on all the stars!

8. Lighting  Christmas Sparkles

Children take turns to run to a box and choose a candy. They open the wrapper. If they find a „preciuos stone” in the wrapper instead of the candy they can light a Christmas sparkle stuck into an apple. They run back to the team and they take turns until they find all 3 „precious stones” and light all 3 sparkles for the team.

This is a spectacular ending to the race!

Finally Santa (a senior class student) gives out the prizes!

We hope you will try this game next year in your school!
